Macy's Parade Santa By John Bentley of Earth & Turf Products LLC Albion, New York is a small town in Western New York that has a little known but interesting history. It was the home of Charles Howard born in 1896. Now you say who is Charles Howard? Well Charles Howard started playing Santa as a young boy and later started the Santa Claus School that trained Santas for department stores all over America. On top of that Charles Howard himself was the the Santa Claus everyone saw in the Macy's Day Thanksgiving Parade for years. Charles played Santa in the parade from 1948 to 1965. He also started a Santa park in Albion where you could go as a child and feed animals. He also started a toy store in Medina New York and produced Santa Suits that were made of fine materials and even white rabbit fur down the front and on the cuffs and collar. What ever you needed to be Santa the Santa Claus school sold. It was really excellent quality stuff. I still own one today. The Charles Howard Santa Claus School later moved to Midland Michigan where it resides today. Fun memories about a man that wanted to see the sparkle in every child's eye as they thought about Christmas and the joy that came from the birth of Christ and the hope that Santa would show up at their house with plenty of goodies.
